St. Patrick’s Day is a festival which has transcended the boundaries of a typical national saint’s day or a national holiday, to become a huge international party in celebration of all things Irish. It is celebrated in countries around the world, and it’s a day when everything is painted green, when everyone wants to be Irish, and when people of all nationalities come together in celebration of our own country. And amongst this worldwide revelry our own home grown festival here in Galway is renowned as one of the best, and with this year marking the 107th annual festival, it is certainly one of the oldest.
The parade has grown from small beginnings to the present day, when on average it has 70,000 spectators thronging the 1.5 mile route. People of all ages mingle together to enjoy the spectacle of music, dance and performance art as the procession winds its way through the city. Debbie Wright, the festival’s Creative Director explains “this year’s festival theme is ‘Over the Moon’, and we have had a phenomenal response from those wanting to get involved and take part – we’re looking forward to our most successful year yet.”
Each year, competition between different events becomes ever more intense, whether it’s Galway residents, Irish residents or foreign tourists, we all need to decide where to enjoy the festival. And with this in mind, Galway’s St. Patrick’s Day Festival team have worked with Impact Media to redesign their visual identity, logo and website, to reinvigorate it for the new decade. The new website has a fresh design and a robust content management system, which allows the festival team to keep the information updated, adding new information easily whenever they need to. Parade Director Craig Flaherty adds “With an event like this, things are changing and things are being added up to the last minute – the new site gives us the freedom to make this the best information portal possible for anyone visiting Galway’s festival.” The new site will launch later this month.
